L'Ile de la Cite at night

After we got back to the hotel, we decided to go for a walk and try to take some pictures. I'd never done any night photography before, but the basic principles had been explained to me (put the camera somewhere very steady and open up the shutter for a long time, up to two seconds), so I thought I'd give it a go. I'm pretty pleased with the results.

This picture, taken from the Pont des Arts, is of the western tip of the Ile de la Cité and Pont Neuf, the oldest bridge in Paris (it was opened in 1607). Lurking in the background on the right of the island is Nôtre Dame.
