The following information was collected for personal use from the multitude of various magazines and interviews issued around the time of the Anthology. At the time, much of the material was quickly collected without any reference to its source, however most of the information sources used have since been identified. No attempt is being made to claim authorship nor infringe any copyrights and the material is reproduced here for private use by Beatles fans.
If I've unintentionally neglected to credit anybody for either information or images then I offer my sincere apologies; please contact me and I will rectify the omission or if preferred remove the material.
Many thanks to Paul and Steve for offering to host the material at http://whizzo.ca/beatles/rs/gobnotch.html and http://abbeyrd.best.vwh.net/ respectively.
The material follows roughly the same format as Lewisohn's Complete Beatles Recording Sessions book, and does not cover any of the Anthology related promo CDs, none of which seemed to include any exclusive musical material not also released on the comercially available Anthology releases.
Amendments, suggestions and new material would be warmly welcomed.
Additional recording by George, Paul and Ringo is reported to have taken place at Paul's home studio on 21st and 22nd March this year.
In a New York Times interview, Paul claimed that the group didn't begin to record the fourth song given to them by Yoko, Grow Old With Me because John's original demo required too much work (although the group apparently 'experimented' on at least three tracks, including Grow Old With Me, at the start of the February 1994 Free As A Bird sessions). Furthermore, Paul confirmed, the Beatles had abandoned work on its replacement, Now And Then.
Paul: We did Free As A Bird and Real Love those two songs of John's, and that was very exciting, very moving for me and very comfortable having his voice in my headphones in the studio again. And the idea arose that there was a third track, another song we kind of had our eyes on called Now And Then.
Ringo: Such a blabbermouth that Paul McCartney! We did three tracks but we only finished two.
Then in March 1996 Beatles Monthly suddenly reported that recording of the third new Beatles song, All For Love was now complete. There was still little inkling as to the nature of this track, although it was understood that the song wasn't one of the John Lennon demo tapes handed to Paul by Yoko, but was in fact a brand new song written by George and Paul (only their second ever collaboration, after 1958s In Spite Of All The Danger).
Without a contribution from John Lennon, however, it's difficult to imagine how the song could be presented as a Beatles recording and, so far, it seems to have been firmly locked away in the vaults along with Now And Then.
