New Album Features 14 New Versions Of Carpenters Classics
Los Angeles: A&M Records is kicking off the New Year with Richard Carpenter's Pianist-Arranger-Composer-Conductor, an album featuring new arrangements of his favorite Carpenters songs combined with one previously unreleased track. The CD will hit the streets on January 27, 1998.
The album, a harmonically rich (and orchestrally reworked) collection of such Carpenters hits at Yesterday Once More, Bless the Beasts and the Children, Top of the World, and We've Only Just Begun, pushes the envelope of the AC radio format that the Carpenters are generally credited with having invented. The album also includes the previously unavailable, Karen's Theme, which Richard originally composed for the 1987 TV movie, The Karen Carpenter Story.
The Carpenters are considered one of the best-selling duos of all time, having sold more than 100 million records worldwide. Next year, Richard is planning to embark on a worldwide tour, playing songs from the album with local symphony orchestras.

The unsung genius behind the Carpenters' hit-filled career. Richard Carpenter is one of the most skilled pop arrangers and musicians of our time. Along with his sister Karen, the pianist and song writer helped to carve out the pop niche with ' 70s hits like Top Of The World and Rainy Days And Mondays. Although Karen drew most of the media attention, Richard was as responsible for the duo's immense success as his sister. After Karen's death in 1983, Richard continued to forge ahead as a producer, composer and arranger. Fifteen years later, he still holds fast to the legacy of the Carpenters and delivers impressive quantities of beautiful new material.
