Ive got to find a place to hideaway far from the shadows of my mind. Sunlight and laughter, love everafter, oh how I love to find A place to hideaway. I hear you whisper and I must obey, blindly follow where you lead. Knowing tomorrow brings only sorrow, Where can I go to find A place to hideaway? Bright-colored pinwheels go round in my head. I run through the mist of the wine. But night and the music remind me instead The world once was mine. Ill save my pennies for a rainy day. But where can I buy another you? Dreams are for sleeping; love is for weeping Oh how I long to find A place to hideaway?
In the notes to the Carpenters: The Compact Disc Collection, Richard Carpenter wrote:
The Carpenters album features Hideaway, a beautiful song by Randy Sparks. Randy is best known for his group The New Christy Minstrels and another of his songs: Today. Before Karen and I started our on our own, we were in a group I had formerly called Spectrum. Randy hired us (a very rare booking) to perfrom at his club "Ledbetters". He opened the show and Hideaway was one of the songs he sang. We liked it immediately and never forgot it.
