Carpenters Fan Club Newsletter #13 - May, 1972

Hi Fans!

By popular demand here we go again with another question & answer session. Karen and Richard are still on tour and the only news that has reached me concerns Karen's suitcase, which was stolen from her dressing room in Richmond, Virginia. It contained items of necessity which she used nightly in preparing to go on stage: her hairdryer, curlers, comb & brush, steam iron, etc. Imagine the hassle trying to replace these things before the next show!

Q: What other instruments do they play?
A: Richard can play just about anything. Karen is very adept on bass guitar.
Q: Does either one wear glasses?
A: Richard wears contacts.
Q: Do they ever, themselves answer fan mail?
A: Indirectly they answer it all. If we are in doubt as to what they would say, we ask them for an answer.
Q: Is Karen National Youth Chairman of Cancer Society & what does she do for them?
A: Yes. It is an honorary title bestowed on her because she and Richard are both concerned with this horrible illness and have donated all proceeds from sales of their program book to the Cancer Society.
Q: Does Richard plan on writing a movie score?
A: He hope he will some day have this opportunity.
Q: Do they choose the clothes they wear on TV?
A: Yes, unless it is a production number. Then the costume is designed and made by the wardrobe department.
Q: What is their nationalities?
A: German on their mother's side and English on their father's side.
Q: Does Karen write songs?
A: No. That's Richard's department.
Q: What are their parents birthdays?
A: Mrs. Carpenter, March 5th; Mr. Carpenter, November 8th.
Q: Are Karen's dogs, Lady & Mush, male or female?
A: They are both female, they have no other pets.
Q: What kind of girl appeals to Richard?
A: He likes a chick to be polite, well-mannered, and classy with the ability to communicate and a sincere interest in music. He hates "put-ons". He calls them plastic people.
Q: Does Richard plan to enter a car race?
A: He loves fast cars and car races but he has no plans to drive in any.
Q: When will the London Bridge Special be aired?
A: Due to air May 7th.
Q: Why was Offering repackaged as Ticket To Ride?
A: Erroneously, the album was released before the single. When the single came out a hit. Therefore the album containing the hit song was repackaged and renamed.
Q; Will Make Your Own Kind of Music be on this summer?
A: If it is, Karen and Richard will not be on it. They have no time to tape a summer TV show this year.
Q: On your album--is anyone else singing besides you?
A: Definitely not. The only voices you hear are Karen and Richard - even when it sounds like a choir!
Q: Who is EV?
A: That's me! I am their personal secretary. The reason I know about their happenings and behind the scene episodes is because, with pad and pencil I follow Karen from bedroom to bathroom to breakfast table and take notes while she relates to me while she dresses and eats, all the sad and funny things that have happened on the tour they've just complete.

That about wraps up this rap session expect to tell you that Richard finally sent the Maserati back to the dealer. He bought a second Lincoln instead - this time all white - interior and exterior. Colored wallet pictures now available!
