RE: Velvet Gloves & Spit
Hi Paul
Velvet Gloves is a wonderful album, I don't know why people don't seem to
like it that much. I guess I like it a lot because it reminds me of the
particular time in my life when I got it. The "non-hit" songs on
the album are obscure but interesting, and I think they're very underrated.
I like how Neil's voice kind of breaks up on "Honey Drippin' Times", and
"Sunday Sun" seems so dreamy and far away. The lyrics of "A Modern Day
Version of Love" I could never figure out, but I liked it because they were
so striking. "Holiday Inn Blues" is a laugh (anyone figure out what the
line is with Charlie Chan??) and I always liked the guitar line in "Two Bit
Manchild". And the cover art with the weird picture of his eye is great!!!
How could anyone not like this album!!!???
