Neil and Diana, Lulu, and the Monkees
I've been reading a biography of Diana and I came across a passage the
other day regarding her visit to the White House in 1985. It stated that
such notable personalities as Clint Eastwood, Neil Diamond, and Tom
Selleck were present, and that Clint, Neil, Tom, and Ronald Reagan each
danced with her. Then it mentioned entertainment, among which was a
performance by Neil Diamond.
A few weeks ago, I was watching an episode of "Absolutely Fabulous." I
heard in the background a strangely familiar -- but at the same time
unfamiliar -- song. Suddenly I realized that it was one of Neil's song
(The Boat that I Row), which is why I had recognized it, but that it was
being done by a woman (I assume that it was Lulu), which is why it sounded
different.
Shortly after this incident, I was listening to the oldies station when I
heard a few opening notes of a song. Immediately believing it to be Neil,
I turned up the volume, only to realize that it wasn't Neil. It was still
Neil-like, though....Then the Monkees started singing, and I knew that it
was a Neil song: A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You.
