There has been a lot of postings recently of Elton's various TV appearances over the last week, so excuse me while I bore you with one more, but here in the UK it has been restricted to just one - An Audience With Elton - this was a 90 minute program shown on a major channel on Saturday (peak time)
Basically, An Audience With.... , consists of a celebrity audience asking questions ( rehearsed I would imagine) interspersed with some songs. The audience consisted of TV, film and music celebs mainly form the UK but a few names most people would recognise like Sting, Cher, Boris Becker, Sir George Martin and Ewan MacGregor.
The questions and answers were very funny in the main. Richard E Grant asked Elton to write a song to the words from his Oven Instruction booklet, and Elton sat down at his piano and wrote a wee ditty on the spot. Janet Street Porter ( a TV critic and producer ) asked if Elton had ever used hair remover cream - he answered that he had used it on his testicles for that smooth feeling and recommended that she did the same (now that's something you wouldn't get on Oprah! ). He also got folks to wear his more outlandish hats and outfits, suggesting to Nick Faldo that on his current form he should wear one of EJ's hats during the Ryder Cup!
Musically we also had some treats. A version of Don't Go Breaking My Heart with the Spice Girls which they sang very well. The Pet Shop Boys did an arrangement of Believe / Song for Guy dueting with Elton which was just superb as I had always thought Believe to be a bit of a dirge, but this arrangement had EJ dancing, and suited the PSBs to a tee. Pat Cash played guitar on Saturday Night with a collection of UK sports personalities singing backing vocals. Sting sang Come Down in Time.
