Columbia Concert

Oh, WOW!! What a concert! I just got back late last night and I haven't read what anyone else wrote about Columbia, so here's my 2 cents! I am still in awe, and still get the adrenaline rush when I think about that night!

I went with a friend, and we waited at the back gait and watched the bus drive in with the band and watched them get out. I gathered up my courage when I saw Charlie Morgan and said hello and that I love his web site (thanks to the Row!) and he came over and spoke with us and I got a picture! He was extremely nice and we really got a thrill!! After they went in we waited in hopes of seeing Elton, along with 4 other fans - not very many!!!!! Security was tight, but we watched as Elton's gray limo pulled in, and he got out and walked behind it so he could see us, and smiled at us. It was great!!

Our tickets were on the 5th row, so we were in heaven! I haven't been that close since 1974!! I believe the song list was very similar to what was posted previously, except to my major disappointment he did not do We All Fall In Love Sometimes / Curtains. I'm jumping ahead!

Simple Life sounded so good! I loved how he emphasized "get back" in the chorus. It deja-vued me to 1972 when he sang Get Back!!!!!!!!!!! He wore a white jacket and pants and a black t-shirt, and his hair looked great! It was layered some on top and it really looked super! He sounded so wonderful. I just love him live, because the songs are never the same. That fantastic voice of his can bring new notes and freshness to songs I've heard a million times. I can't remember specifics right now, but I heard them through out the night and his voice literally sent chills up my spine.

The audience really loved him! I think people were standing for most of the concert. It was impossible to sit! They yelled and screamed and danced and totally got into it! The band sounded wonderful and looked like they were enjoying themselves, also. Elton didn't talk very much, he did comment on the baseball game thaat had just ended - "Boo to the umpires!" He commented on the last two months events as he introduced Sand And Water. It was a beautiful and moving song. I cried. I couldn't understand all the words. Anyone know how to get them? I'd really love to read them. After the song was over the mood in the coliseum changed so dramatically! There was a hush and a wave of sadness that was palpable! Elton went right into The Bitch Is Back. It was hard for me to adjust, but then I was able to get back into the mood and continue the fun. I don't know how he does it.

Tour Program: It was great. The best was a comparison to Elton and Frank Sinatra. The similarities and differences of "O'l Blue Eyes and O'l Four Eyes". That cracked me up!! There was a page in the program devoted to East End Lights! That's a first. I hope they are ready to triple (or more!) their circulation!

Elton is truly at another pinnacle of his career. Others are realizing what we have known all along. HE IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!
