Memphis concert

by: Cheri

This is my impression of Elton's last show of this tour; He was wonderful, the audience was awful!

My best friend flew from Reno to go with me, we dressed up, pinned red ribbons on our lapels (and I added my Hercules fan club ID) and proceeded to party! The audience was pathetic most of the evening, the man seated next to us was almost in a coma. Even the people that had the wonderful floor seats sat through most of the show.

The first time he got a real 'rise' out of the audience was DLTSGDOM. I saw the same thing that had been reported for all concerts; whenever a Big Picture song was played, people went for beer.

I can't really report much new stuff, the set list was the same as the last show, (I REALLY missed Levon!) The security was very zealous. We tried several to to sneak and/or cajole our way to the front, with no success. I did bring my camera (even though is was supposedly not allowed) and I saw lots of flashbulbs popping.

The Pyramid is HUGE, I think about 25,000 seats, and while I thought our tickets were pretty good, they really weren't. (I keep telling myself it could have been a lot worse!)

He wore a yellow suit with a yellow t-shirt, seemed in a great mood. Beth Nielson Chapman was there and he dedicated a couple of songs to different people, and mentioned the passing of the singer of INXS. (I'm sorry, I don't remember his name.)

But despite my minor irritation with the lukewarm crowd, my friend and I, and lots of other fans, had a fantastic time.

After the concert we went to Beale Street, where a blues festival was going on, and saw lots of people that had been at the concert. I could kick myself for being so excited at the concert (and so eager to escape the frenzy in the parking lot) that I forgot to buy a t-shirt. I hope Ticketmaster will be selling them on their online store. I did manage to keep my wits about me long enough to buy a program, and it is beautiful.

The whole Memphis experience was great and my best friend and I will be talking about this trip for years.
