First I'll say that I won't list the play list as I just finished reading Kristy's report of the Sacramento show and the set list was the same. Basically I'd just like to give some insights and impressions that I have.
Elton came out in a black outfit with silver chains running across the sleeves and a sequined Versace emblem on the back, no earring and black ,thick framed glasses. He appeared to be in a great mood, a lot of smiling and laughing throughout the show. A ton of energy!!! The band was the same (lots of energy!!)... John Jorgenson was sporting a new haircut! He and Davey, in particular, were very energetic all evening... giving away a lot of picks to fans in the front. Both sounded fantastic and as mentioned before, John's guitars are beautiful! I can't recall the song, but at one point John Mahon comes out and plays on Davey's guitar and that is a treat. A wonderful highlight was Davey during Rocket Man.... good grief... how many sounds can that man make on a guitar?.. he truly is a master. Jack Bruno, Guy Babylon and Bob Birch are each given a chance to solo during songs and all sound excellent. Then of course, we have Mr. Happy... Billy Trudel. He sounded great.. hitting all those high notes and mugging a lot for the camera. I know a lot of people really knock the man and his dancing but personally.. it's great to see someone who enjoys themself and gives of themself as much as he does. I had a chance to chat with him at the Expo in L.A. and he is a very warm individual.. I think that comes across in his actions as well during the shows!
On to Elton... his voice was strong all night and he spent a lot of time signing autographs and shaking hands... something that he did little of during the February show. Recover Your Soul.. acoustic... I'm sorry Kristy.... it just doesn't get any better than that! The man and his piano.. what a treat! Unfortunately, the audience managed to leave their seats alot for the songs like Roy Rogers, Teenage Idol and Mona Lisas but, I for one, just enjoyed getting to hear something different. How many times in my life am I going to get a chance to hear Roy Rogers and Teenage Idol: LIVE! Elton did several different extended piano solos on several songs and those are always a treat. O.K... so I can't recall which songs exactly other than Honky Cat but still.... they are there and WONDERFUL! Overall the show was excellent with a lot of energy. Elton had announced at first that he would be doing a long set and he did.. almost three hours! He chatted very little during the show.
The first encore as listed was Lucy In The SKY... (afterwards another rower and I were just glowing over the fact that he played this song) and Great Balls Of Fire...(this he did in February but it still sounded great and the crowd was totally into it!). Previous listings had CYFTLT as the last encore and thankfully we were treated to Bennie And The Jets with the stool kicking and under the piano showmanship.. what a way to go out. Oh and just for those interested in clothing.. Elton changed into a purple shirt, yellow shorts with purple trim and a VERY BRIGHT lime green jacket with gold glitter crosses, gold rimmed glasses... What other man can carry that off???
So.. to everyone still awaiting a show... best wishes and know as always you'll have a rocking good time!
Christine
