NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--March 5, 1999-- The outstanding debut success of soul singer Kelly Price reached new heights with a recent phone call from Elton John.
The legendary pop superstar asked Price to participate on his upcoming Aida project. John, who's writing the soundtrack for the upcoming musical production, felt Price's heartfelt gospel-influenced vocal style would be a perfect fit for The Gods Love Nubia, one of the play's big numbers.
Price, whose debut CD Soul Of A Woman (on the Island Black Music label) has earned her three 1999 Soul Train Award nominations and has sold over one million units behind the strength of the No. 1 R&B smash Friend of Mine, was thrilled to hear from John. "To know that someone like Elton John heard my work and wanted me to be a part of this project is absolutely incredible."
Following a formidable career as a background singer for the likes of Mariah Carey, the Isley Bros. and Mary J. Blige, Price now joins the club as one of a bevy of A-list recording artists on the Aida project. Appearing on the star-studded soundtrack are veterans Sting, Tina Turner, James Taylor and Elton John, as well as contemporaries Janet Jackson, Leann Rimes, Shania Twain, Boyz II Men, Lenny Kravitz, Spice Girls, and internationally renowned Angelique Kidjo. "And then there's me," quips Price. "Whew, that's an awesome group to be a part of. Amazing is the only word that comes to my mind."
Kelly Price is currently in negotiations for her first national tour and is carving out time to record her first Christmas CD. Aida is slated for release March 23, 1999.
