NEW YORK, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Respect will be the theme for the Rainforest Foundation's Tenth Annual Carnegie Hall Benefit Concert on Thursday, April 13th. Produced by Rainforest Foundation Co-Founder Trudie Styler and sponsored for the seventh consecutive year by Revlon, the one night only lineup includes: The Impressions, Elton John, Billy Joel, Tom Jones, Gladys Knight, Martha Reeves, Percy Sledge, Sting, James Taylor and ..."
According to Trudie Styler: "We will be pulling out all the stops this year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the concert. Respect is not only the title of the night but when it comes to the rainforest and the earth, it states our message in one word." Revlon Chairman Ronald O. Perelman said: "Revlon has been sponsoring the Rainforest Foundation concert for years and it's always a sensational night. Trudie has a unique gift for combining serious work with great fun. We are in for another unforgettable evening."
The Rainforest Foundation's Annual Carnegie Hall Benefit Concerts were listed in the Millennium Edition of the Guinness World Records as the "biggest environmental fund-raising event." Eleven Million dollars has thus far been generated to help the foundation in its challenge to protect the rainforests of the world and the rights of the peoples who live there. The Rainforest Foundation was established in 1989 by Trudie Styler, Sting and Menkragnoti Chief Raoni.
After its original mission of demarcating Chief Raoni's land in the Amazon was accomplished, the work of the foundation evolved to currently include projects in 19 rainforest countries throughout the world. Rainforest Foundation Executive Director Laurie Parise states: "In just ten years, the reality of indigenous peoples has dramatically changed. Ten years ago Chief Raoni had to rely on external help to draw attention to his people's plight and destruction of his land. Today, indigenous people are beginning to challenge authority themselves, using the tools that have so often been used against them, the law. This is our mission to help communities in their quest to determine their own future."
The concert highlights "Rainforest Awareness Week" sponsored by New Vision International. The Empire State Building will glow green in tribute, and the street sign outside Carnegie Hall will be renamed "Rainforest Way." Other festivities will include a benefit at Pop! International Galleries in SoHo on April 11th and a Central Park "Run for the Rainforest" sponsored by Conde Nast Traveler on Earth Day, April 22nd.
The concert starts at 7PM, April 13th. For gala ticket information, please contact Events Associates at 212-245-6570; concert only tickets: Carnegie Hall Box Office at 212-247-7800; Rainforest Awareness Week and more about the foundation visit the website at http://www.savetherest.org.
