JOANNA MCINTYRE, (Facilitating Director)

Joanna McIntyre has directed numerous theatre and television productions across Canada and the US. Her passion in theatre is working at the initial visioning and developmental stages with playwrights and other collaborating artists. For the past nine years, she’s been a co-creator and the collaborating director for the music-driven interdisciplinary Urge Collective.

Joanna is the recipient of a number of awards including: the Pauline McGibbon Award for direction, the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Direction of Michael Ondaatje’s The Collected Works of Billy the Kid (Tarragon Theatre). Other directorial works include: the 1996 Chalmers Award-winning production of John Murrell’s The Faraway Nearby (world premiere at Perseverance Theatre in Alaska, and Canadian premieres at the Belfry Theatre in Victoria, Tarragon Theatre in Toronto), the 1999 production of Fabrizzio Falippo’s Waiting for Lewis for Theatre Direct Canada, the Chalmers Award-winning productions of Colin Thomas’ Flesh and Blood and Joan MacLeod’s Little Sister, also for Theatre Direct Canada.

Joanna has been the program dramaturg for new plays at the playRites Colony at the Banff Centre for the Arts, and has directed television episodes of E.N.G., READY OR NOT and NORTH OF 60. Six years ago Joanna opened a creativity and healing studio where she has been exploring inroads into the wilder reaches of one’s creativity and true Nature, and has been working with individual artists, groups and others who are seeking new ways of exploring creativity and of changing their personal lives.
