From: Tim & Heather Fleming Subject: "Crusade for Crusade" ----------------------------------------------------------------------- In the 18 months since the "Babylon 5" spinnoff "Crusade" was cancelled, the fans have been working hard to try to resurrect the show. Many people have questioned whether there was any reasonable chance that "Crusade" could return. This summer, we finally had proof that there is a real chance that "Crusade" could be resurrected: In June, Bonnie Hammer, executive vice president of the Sci-Fi channel, was asked during an online chat if there was any chance her network would purchase new episodes of "Crusade". Ms. Hammer responded, "We are actually open to considering it down the road. But first we want to see how B5 does on our air..." This statement not only made it clear that "Crusade" does have a real chance at resurrection, it also made it clear what we, the fans, must do if we want "Crusade" back: Get people to watch B5 when it airs (in widescreen) on the Sci-Fi channel weekdays at 7 pm beginning September 25, 2000! J. Michael Straczynski, creator of "Babylon 5" and "Crusade", said the same thing in an online chat this summer. He said, "I often get asked, "What can the fans do?" Here's an answer. There are still a lot of folks who, for one reason or another, never checked out the show, often because they were concerned about disloyalty to ST or the like... if every B5 fan went out and got 5 to 10 people who'd never watched the show, and bugged them to watch the cycle when it starts on SFC...who knows what remarkable things could happen?" As we approach the premier of B5 on the Sci-Fi channel. We ask you, the fans, to follow JMS's call and do your part to help save "Crusade": Tell all your friends, family, acquaintances...anyone you think might be interested in "Babylon 5" about it's run on the Sci-Fi channel. And ask them to tell their friends too! If we spread the word far enough, "Babylon 5" will get the kind of high ratings that will convince the Sci-Fi channel to continue the B5 franchise. After B5 begins airing, there is more that you can do to persuade the Sci-Fi channel to pick up "Crusade". First, write letters to Bonnie Hammer at the following address: Ms. Bonnie Hammer Executive Vice President and General Manager Sci-Fi Channel 1230 Avenue of the Americas New York, NY 10020-1513 Let the SFC know that you are watching and enjoying the B5 reruns and ask them to buy new episodes of "Crusade". Letters are the way that you can let the SFC know that you are watching if you do not have a Neilsen box hooked up to your tv. Second, write to the sponsors who advertise on SFC during B5. These are the companies who provide SFC with their income. If we can convince these companies that advertising during "Babylon 5" is beneficial for them, they will ask the SFC to show more similar programming (ie "Crusade") and since they are the source of SFC's money, SFC will listen. Sponsor addresses will be listed on our web page, "Crusade for Crusade" (http://www.astro.umd.edu/~fleming/), shortly after B5 begins airing. The Sci-Fi channel is "Crusade's" last, best hope for resurrection. If the fans work together, we have a real chance of saving this show. Please help us! Come to "Crusade for Crusade" (http://www.astro.umd.edu/~fleming/) for continuing updates on the situation and to find out more about how you can help save "Crusade".
