This package can be rather difficult to install for non-technical owners.
Chimera is an older browser and does support many of the new features on the
World Wide Web (eg: Frames, Backgrounds, JPG, tables, etc.)
Configured for PPP.
You need a higher end equipment to take advantage of this (4+M RAM, 10M HD)
Mono (ST-HIGH/TT-HIGH) only.
It's TRUE you can have full Internet access on your Atari. Which includes:
Chimera - a GRAPHICAL World Wide Web (WWW) Browser
FTP - File Transfer Protocol - copy files from FTP sites around the world directly to
your Atari Computer.
Telnet - Connect to computers around the world like the Library of Congress.
This is made possible by installing on your system:
MiNT - a multitasking UNIX like system
MiNTnet - MiNT's Networking software
X-Windows - The UNIX world GUI's Front End - this is where the Internet Tools run
SLIP/PPP - Serial Line Internet Protocol and/or Point to Point Protocol.
What do I need to be able to run these tools:
4M of RAM memory (*)
10M (min) dedicated MINT Hard Drive Partion
A Modem (Recommended at least a 14.4K bps)
An ISP (Recommended one that provides Dynamic PPP connections)
An UNZIP Program
An ASCII Text Editor
Recommended: A knowledge of UNIX and the VI editor
Recommended: A Hard Drive Boot Manager Program (like SuperBoot or XBoot)
(*) With 4M RAM pages with a lot of graphics will not load. You can still
access the page by turning off the graphics (See the tips section).
How much is this going to cost me:
It's FREE. All the programs required to get this working are Public Domain. If you
want to spend the time collecting all the files and configuring everything.
It is available at HENSA the Atari Archieve in the UK and other Atari FTP sites
If you don't have access to ftp you can order the set of seven(7)
(720K) diskettes from the Toronto Atari Federation (TAF) for $25.00 (Canadian Dollars).
