Every other dream I have seems to be geared towards making me glad I live in the real world, where my fingers don't spontaneously get so badly dislocated that my little finger is where my ring finger should be. Once again, what the hell, brain.

Ginsenoside

Quite some time ago I bought a bag of what looked like old, dry, peeled twigs, and they'd been sitting in a tin until I realized last night that if I wanted any tea that wasn't green or black I had the choice of lavender or ginseng, and I'd tried the lavender already.

Anyway, self-imposed desperation being the way I get half of everything in my life done, I dropped a few roots into a pot of water just as they'd advised me when I got it, and prepared a "decoction", as the Wikipedia page on ginseng put it. It also mentioned that ginseng can make it hard to sleep, and I'm not actually a complete idiot; I put it into a mason jar and into the fridge for Wednesday morning. It's hard to tell when it's really properly decocted, since I guess it's pretty low in tannin, but it was plenty strong after an hour or two. I had it with honey.

What can I report on the unknown benefits of an unproven subject of probably thousands of inconclusive studies? You hear more about the alleged health benefits of tea, these days. I did stay up rather later than usual, but I think that's due to another distraction:

Strangers in Paradise pocket vol. 6, Terry Moore, Abstract Studio:

I laid off getting the very latest and greatest larger-format volumes because I'd had enough of the story, but when I leafed through this today I was startled to discover that the whole thing had been concluded not long afterwards. So for lack of anything else new I bought it and got on the roller coaster one last time. The seemingly endless tiltawhirl of comedy, romance, action, and drama gets bombed out of existence by tragedy, and a series of revelations that vary from improbable and a teeny bit contrived to deviously conceived and brilliantly executed. Definitely a better conclusion to the series than I had expected, although more accurately I hadn't expected a conclusion at all.
