Re Alan's message, I had similar concerns a few months ago. Souper
would move rapidly through the unread articles but actually download
nothing, yet would update the newsrc files as if the articles had been
downloaded. The problem turned out to be elsewhere than with Souper -
most probably something awry with the connections between me and the
news server (it's a long way from here to New York!) Very occasionally
this has happened again since. When it does I simply edit the _Souper_
newsrc file affected (_not_ the Yarn one), set the numbers back by the
same as the increment that should have been downloaded, and try again
later. If any messages then downloaded are duplicates of what is
already in the Yarn newbase, Yarn obligingly rejects them at import
time.
Aside from the point made above by Arnoud, am I correct in thinking
also that in a single connected session where several newsgroups are
downloaded, cross-posted articles that have already been encountered
during the session in one of the newsgroups won't be downloaded again
in another but are simply skipped by Souper? (If so, this behaviour
would differ from the case where Yarn rejects duplicates on import.)
The above refers to Souper 1.5 and Yarn/2 0.89 for OS/2.
