2017-01-20 - Host names for email services
In the past we have always suggested using "mail.Vex.Net" for all email servers such as IMAP, POP and SMTP. This was mainly due to the early unavailability of wildcard security certificates. The other names would have worked but they would have given warnings about invalid certificate.
For years now we have been using a wildcard certificate and so this limitation is no longer required. As we get larger it gets closer to the time that we will have to make these various virtual servers actual, different servers. For this reason it is a good idea to start moving to these functional names now. Here are the server names.
- pop3.Vex.Net: POP3 incoming server
- pop.Vex.Net: alias for above
- imap.Vex.Net: IMAP incoming server
- smtp.Vex.Net: SMTP outgoing server
Don't forget to change your phones and tablets as well. If you use our WebMail (squirellmail or roundcube) you do not need to change anything.
